Sharing the heritage of rare colliery buildings and machinery
Agricultural land for centuries, it was George Stephenson, ‘Father of Railways’, who saw Snibston’s potential. Primarily here to build a railway, he snapped up Snibston estate when valuable coal reserves were uncovered.
Today, Snibston Heritage Trust works in harmony with other heritage organisations and alongside Leicestershire County Council, to protect, preserve and promote industrial and mining heritage including Snibston Colliery.
